KitchenAid F3E1 — Heating Element Error
What This Code Means
The wash water did not reach the required temperature within the allotted time. KitchenAid dishwashers heat water to 120–140°F for optimal cleaning; without this, detergent does not dissolve properly.
Common Causes
- Failed heating element
- Failed thermistor (water temperature sensor)
- Low incoming water temperature (verify hot water supply line is actually hot)
- Control board not activating the heating circuit
DIY Steps to Try First
- Run hot water at the kitchen sink until it's hot to the touch before starting the dishwasher — this ensures the first fill is at temperature.
- Reset by powering off at the circuit breaker for 5 minutes.
- Check that the hot water supply line (usually under the sink) connects to the dishwasher, not the cold line — misconnection is rare but happens.
