Dryer ⚠ Safety Risk

Samsung HC — High Heat Error

What This Code Means

The dryer's thermistor or high-limit thermostat detected a temperature above the safe operating threshold. The dryer shuts off to prevent damage and fire risk.

Common Causes

  • Blocked exhaust duct (most common — see d80/d90 for duct cleaning steps)
  • Failed thermistor giving a false high-temp reading
  • Heating element shorted to ground (electric models)
  • Gas valve failing to close properly (gas models — fire risk)

DIY Steps to Try First

  1. Check and clean the lint filter and exhaust duct (see d80 steps above).
  2. After cleaning, let the dryer cool for 30 minutes before restarting.
  3. If HC returns immediately on a clean duct, do not continue using the dryer.
