How Epic Star fixes freezers in Los Angeles

A failing freezer is one of the most time-sensitive appliance calls we get — hundreds of dollars of food can be lost in a single afternoon. That’s why freezer repair runs on our same-day-first model: call before noon and a technician arrives that afternoon with a van stocked for the most common freezer failures.

What we cover

Standalone uprights and chest freezers (Frigidaire, GE, Whirlpool, garage-rated models) are the volume of this work. Built-in freezer columns and integrated drawer units (Sub-Zero, Viking, Wolf, Thermador) need specialized handling — different sealed-system layouts, panel-ready mounting, and brand-specific parts catalogs. We service both.

Diagnostic-first approach

Before any work, we diagnose. The service call is $85, waived entirely if you proceed with the repair. After diagnosis you get a flat-rate written quote — never an open-ended hourly bill. If we recommend against repair (a $600 compressor on a $400 chest freezer, for example), we say so directly.

Common freezer problems we fix

See the FAQ below for a structured Q&A. The short list: not freezing, food thawing, sealed-system refrigerant leaks, compressor failure, heavy frost buildup, freezer too cold, defrost system faults, door gasket failure, water leaks, and constant running.

Sealed-system and refrigerant work

Many serious freezer faults are sealed-system problems — refrigerant leaks, restricted lines, or compressor failure. This work legally requires EPA Section 608 certification, which we hold (Universal). It’s the same expertise that makes us a sound choice for built-in Sub-Zero and Viking units.

Frequently asked questions

How much does freezer repair cost in Los Angeles?

Most freezer repairs in Los Angeles cost between $180 and $650 depending on the fault. Common repairs (thermostat, defrost heater, door gasket, evaporator fan) typically run $200–$400. Compressor and sealed-system refrigerant work on built-in units is higher, $500–$900+. Our $85 service call is waived when you proceed with the repair, and you get a flat-rate quote before any work begins.

Can you come the same day before my food spoils?

In most cases, yes. A freezer warming up is time-sensitive, so we prioritize these calls. Call before noon Monday through Saturday and we will typically have a technician at your home that afternoon. As a stopgap, keep the door shut — a full freezer holds temperature for roughly 24–48 hours unopened. Call (213) 205-2055.

Do you repair Sub-Zero and built-in column freezers?

Yes. We have extensive experience with Sub-Zero built-in freezer columns and integrated units, plus Viking and Wolf. We are an independent specialist — not a Sub-Zero Factory Authorized service. Our EPA Section 608 Universal certification covers the sealed-system refrigerant work these units often require, and we typically offer faster scheduling for out-of-warranty repairs.

Why is my freezer building up frost?

The most common cause is a failure in the automatic defrost system — the defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost timer/control. A worn door gasket that lets warm, humid air in is the second most common cause. Both are routine repairs. Manual-defrost chest freezers can simply need defrosting if frost exceeds about a quarter inch.

Is my freezer worth repairing or should I replace it?

Our honest rule of thumb: if your freezer is under 8 years old and the repair costs less than 50% of a new equivalent, repair. Basic standalone chest and upright freezers are inexpensive to replace, so a major compressor failure often favors replacement. Built-in Sub-Zero and Viking columns ($6,000–$12,000+ to replace) usually justify repair well past 12 years.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Every completed repair includes a 30-day labor warranty. Replacement parts carry their manufacturer warranty, typically 90 days to 1 year depending on the component.

Do you speak Spanish?

Yes. ¿Habla español? Hablamos español. Our technicians and dispatch are bilingual. Call (213) 205-2055 and request Spanish service, or visit our Spanish-language site at epicstarcor.com/es/.
